Mac mini / Model finder
Small Mac.
Exact model.
Find your Mac mini’s model and chip before choosing a skin. The right answer is in the product information, not just the shape of the silver box.

1. Start with About This Mac
Choose About This Mac from the Apple menu in the corner of the screen. Apple explains this route in its model-name and serial-number guide.
Copy the complete hardware description, including the chip or Intel processor and any model year shown. A useful note is “Mac mini, M2 Pro, 2023”, rather than “Apple desktop”.
Do not use the year you bought it as a substitute for its model year. An older model bought second-hand or from remaining stock does not become a newer generation. Your chosen computer nickname is not a model number either.
2. Check the Model Identifier in System Information
Hold Option while opening the Apple menu, select System Information, then select Hardware. Read the Model Identifier in the hardware overview and compare it with the table below.
A code such as Mac14,3 identifies a model, while a serial number identifies an individual computer. Keep both separate from the macOS version: a software update does not change the physical model that a skin needs to fit.
Reference: Apple’s System Information guide.
3. If the Mac mini will not start
Look for the serial number on the underside or original packaging, then enter it privately into Apple’s coverage checker to find the model name. Use the box for this particular computer, not a spare box from another Mac.
There is no need to remove the bottom cover or open the computer. Shut it down and disconnect it before turning it over to read accessible markings. If the result is unclear, use Apple Support before guessing.
Mac mini model identification table
These examples help identify the computer. This is not a skin-compatibility chart. The product links and checks come afterwards.
| Mac mini model | Model Identifier | Keep this distinction |
|---|---|---|
| M6 (2026) | Mac18,5 |
Keep the M6 chip name. |
| M5 Pro (2026) | Mac17,16 |
Do not shorten M5 Pro to M5. |
| 2024: M4 or M4 Pro |
Mac16,10 / Mac16,11
|
Read the full chip name as well. |
| M2 (2023) | Mac14,3 |
Separate from M2 Pro. |
| M2 Pro (2023) | Mac14,12 |
Keep the Pro suffix. |
| M1 (2020) | Macmini9,1 |
Not an Intel Mac mini. |
| Intel (2018) | Macmini8,1 |
Check support before ordering. |
| Intel (Late 2014) | Macmini7,1 |
Check support before ordering. |
Model references: Apple’s Mac mini identification list and its updated English model list. Apple’s 2026 announcement identifies the newer chips as M6 and M5 Pro.
For a model not listed here, follow Apple’s full identification list rather than choosing the nearest-looking row. Keep the full result when you contact us.
Older wide enclosure or newer compact design?
Size can help rule out an obvious mismatch. Apple specifies a 19.7 × 19.7 cm footprint for the 2023 M2-generation Mac mini, compared with 12.7 × 12.7 cm for the 2024 M4-generation design.
That is a useful visual check, not a replacement for the model name. Matching outside dimensions alone does not confirm every cut-out or skin section.

These are XtremeSkins product renders with skins fitted, not factory finishes. Images are not shown to scale and do not identify the chip inside a similar-looking enclosure.
Match your confirmed model to a skin
Start with the exact listing below, then review its available pieces and options. The table reflects the catalogue checked on 21 October 2026; the Mac mini selector is the place to check the current range.
| Your confirmed chip | Where to go next |
|---|---|
| M1 | Mac mini M1 skins |
| M2 | Mac mini M2 skins |
| M4 | Mac mini M4 skins |
| M6 | Mac mini M6 skins |
| M2 Pro, M4 Pro or M5 Pro | Check that your full chip name is explicitly covered, or contact us before ordering. |
| Intel or another model | Check the selector or contact us. Do not substitute a similar-looking model. |
Choose the pieces, then the finish
Once the model is confirmed, check the actual coverage selected. For example, the M2 and M4 listings offer Top, Sides and Apple Logo options in different combinations. Selecting one piece is not the same as ordering all of them.
For colours, textures and custom combinations, continue to our Mac mini skins buying guide. For fitting, use the installation guide selector and keep ports, ventilation openings and controls clear.
If your Mac has an aftermarket enclosure or other exterior modifications, mention them first. A software model name describes the original hardware, not a replacement shell.
Still unsure? Send us the model details
Email info@xtremeskins.co.uk with the full model name, chip and Model Identifier. A front-and-back photo can help, with serial numbers and personal details hidden.
We would rather help you check the model first than have you choose the perfect finish for the wrong little silver box.
Mac mini identification questions
Can I identify a Mac mini without turning it on?
Use its accessible serial number or original packaging with Apple’s private lookup route above. Do not open the enclosure just to choose a skin.
Can I order an M2 skin for an M2 Pro?
Do not assume compatibility from the shortened M2 name. Keep Pro in your model description and check that the listing explicitly covers it, or ask us before ordering.
Does the macOS version tell me which skin I need?
No. Match the computer’s hardware model and chip, not its software version. The purchase date and a personalised computer name are not substitutes either.
What should I do if I have an older Intel Mac mini?
Identify the exact model using Apple’s list, then check our current selector or contact us. This guide does not promise a skin for every Mac mini generation.
