Can't see your model listed? Use a similar model with the same skin type for the basic fitting method. Cut-outs and alignment points may differ; always use a skin made for your exact headphones. Clear skins have a separate wet-fitting guide and are not fitted using these dry-vinyl reminders.

A little preparation goes a long way

Before you start

Check your pieces

Confirm WH-1000XM6 on your order. Separate the intended ear cup and headband pieces without removing unused sections from the backing.

Clean and dry

Switch off and unplug the headphones. Follow Sony's surface-care instructions and keep cleaning moisture away from cushions and openings.

Set yourself up

Use clean, dry hands and a well-lit workspace. Watch the video first and keep your supplied fitting instructions nearby.

Fitting your headphone skin

Use the video for the exact positioning and order. Only fit the sections included in your order.

  1. Check the alignment

Match each cup piece to the intended side. Check the edges and cut-outs before pressing down; do not stretch vinyl to correct alignment.

  2. Smooth gradually

Follow the backing-removal method shown and work progressively across the surface without repeatedly pulling the adhesive.

  3. Take care around curves

Use gentle hairdryer warmth only where instructed. Do not use a heat gun or make the headphones hot.

  4. Check moving parts

Keep hinges, cushions, microphones, ports and controls unobstructed. Fit vinyl only to its intended exterior surface.

Installation questions

Does this cover the cushions or hinges?

No. Apply each piece only to its intended exterior panel, not across a moving joint or onto a cushion.

What if a curved edge will not sit down?

Stop and check alignment before adding pressure or warmth. Send a photo rather than stretching the skin to fit.

What about bubbles or lifting?

Do not use a pin or extra force. See our fitting troubleshooting guide or ask us for help.
