Identify the keyboard.
Not just the iPad.
A keyboard can work with an iPad without sharing the same exterior as another compatible keyboard. That distinction matters when choosing a precision-cut skin.
Our iPad keyboard skin selector includes dedicated Magic Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio listings. This guide helps you take the right route before choosing colours or coverage.
First, distinguish the keyboard families
Magic Keyboard for iPad is an accessory family, not one universal shell. Apple separately lists versions for different iPad ranges and sizes. Smart Keyboard Folio is another product family, and Magic Keyboard Folio is not simply an alternative spelling of it.
The separate Magic Keyboard sold for desktop use is not the same product as an iPad keyboard case. A third-party keyboard with a similar description also needs its own fit confirmation.
Compare the exact names and illustrations in Apple's keyboard guide. These distinctions identify the accessory; they do not establish that a skin for one fits another.
Then check the accessory itself
- Read the original product description. Keep the full name and size from the keyboard packaging or receipt, rather than a shortened marketplace title.
- Compare the physical layout. Note the hinge and back-panel shape, camera opening, trackpad and presence or absence of a function-key row. A mismatch is a reason to stop and check, not to trim a skin.
- Record a model or part number where available. Use it with the product name when asking us to check a listing. There is no need to send a serial number.
If the packaging is missing, send clear photographs of the whole keyboard open and closed, plus readable model markings. Do not remove feet, peel the keyboard's factory covering or take it apart to search for a number.
“Works with my iPad” and “uses this skin template” are two different questions.

Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro M4 and M5
We have separate 11-inch M4/M5 Magic Keyboard skins and 13-inch M4/M5 Magic Keyboard skins. The product titles list both supported iPad chip generations, although the retained web addresses contain M4. Check the keyboard itself and the size.
Earlier iPad Pro Magic Keyboards
The selector also contains earlier 11-inch and 12.9-inch listings, including 11-inch 2020 and 12.9-inch 2021 options. The iPad generation in a product title should not replace a check of the actual keyboard hardware.
A Magic Keyboard used with iPad Air
Our 11-inch iPad Air Magic Keyboard listing names several compatible iPad models. That does not mean every keyboard ever used with one of those iPads has the same skin fit. Compare your keyboard version with the listing before ordering.
Smart Keyboard Folio
Choose a dedicated Folio product, such as the listed 11-inch Smart Keyboard Folio or 12.9-inch Smart Keyboard Folio. Do not substitute a Magic Keyboard skin because the iPad size matches.
Magic Keyboard Folio, another size or an unlisted keyboard
Check the current selector and contact us if the exact accessory is missing. This guide explains the naming differences; it does not promise a skin for every Apple keyboard or third-party alternative.

Why tablet compatibility is not the whole answer
Apple notes a useful example: its first-generation 12.9-inch Magic Keyboard, model A1998, is functionally compatible with a fifth-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but the closed fit may be affected by the tablet's thickness. See Apple's setup guidance.
For skin ordering, the practical lesson is to identify the keyboard you own rather than automatically buying a keyboard skin named after the tablet you later attached to it. Do not infer an identical template from electronic compatibility.
Check coverage after confirming the model
Our checked 11-inch Pro M4/M5 listing uses Body, Trackpad and Body + Trackpad choices. Those are not interchangeable with an iPad's Back or Sides options, and they do not mean that every key receives a sticker.
Other keyboard listings can offer different sections. Read the Magic Keyboard coverage and fitting guide before deciding which pieces to order.
Keyboard identification questions
Does 11-inch mean all 11-inch keyboards share one skin?
No. Size is only one part of the product identity. Confirm the family and version, then choose its dedicated listing.
Should I look up the iPad model too?
Yes, especially when checking accessory compatibility. Use our iPad model finder, but keep the tablet's identity separate from the keyboard's.
Can I use the same skin on a keyboard and a Smart Folio cover?
Do not assume so. A cover without a keyboard is a different fitting surface. Only choose a product explicitly listed for that accessory.
The right keyboard. Your preferred finish.
Choose your verified model, then explore its available pieces. To coordinate the rest, use the iPad hub, Pencil hub and our matching setup ideas.
