Which Microsoft Surface Do I Have? Model, Generation & Size Guide

Start with the Surface app

Search Start for Surface and open the app. Expand Device information and note the model. If the app is absent, Microsoft provides it through the Microsoft Store.

Use System Information instead

Search Start for System Information. Record System Model and System SKU from the right-hand pane. Keep the complete values, including any “for Business” or edition wording.

When you cannot use the device

If it is already registered, sign in to your Microsoft account’s Devices page and open Info & support. Otherwise, check the original product label or purchase record and follow Microsoft’s identification guidance.

Do not send your Microsoft password or recovery keys to identify a skin. A cropped model-information screenshot is more useful than a picture of your account page.

Record these details before choosing a skin

Use a complete description such as Surface Book 2, 13.5-inch, Intel Core i7. “Microsoft laptop” or “Surface with a keyboard” leaves too much room for a wrong match.

Family and generation

Keep Laptop, Book, Pro, Go, Laptop Go or Laptop Studio in the name, together with the generation or edition. These are separate routes through the range, not extra words to discard. The Windows version is not the Surface generation.

Screen size and System SKU

Do not treat 13, 13.5, 13.8 and 15-inch descriptions as interchangeable. Where the model name does not settle the size, compare the full System SKU with Microsoft’s Surface System SKU reference.

For example, Microsoft lists Surface Laptop 3 13.5-inch with the SKU Surface_Laptop_3_1867:1868, while its 15-inch variants have different entries. Copy the whole string rather than matching only a few digits. The SKU identifies the hardware; the skin listing still determines our supported fit.

Processor variant when the listing specifies one

Our Surface Book 2 and Book 3 13.5-inch skins have separate i5 and i7 listings. The product descriptions explicitly exclude the other variant. Check your processor in the device information or original specification before choosing between them.

These are the specific listings checked for this guide. They do not imply that every Surface model or every screen size is covered. Open the matching product to check its current section and finish options.

There is a separate Surface Go skin listing. Do not extend that name to a later Go generation without an explicit fit confirmation.

Surface Duo has its own listings for Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2. Use the exact phone model from its product information; the Windows instructions above do not apply.

What if my Surface is not in this table?

Browse the Microsoft laptop skin selector for additions. If there is no exact match for your model, size or configuration, ask us before ordering. Identifying a device successfully does not automatically mean a skin is available for it.

Email info@xtremeskins.co.uk with the full model, size and relevant processor detail. Include a cropped screenshot or exterior photo if helpful, with personal details and the individual serial number hidden.

Then choose coverage and fitting instructions

Check the selected pieces rather than assuming every kit covers the lid, base, keyboard area and trackpad. Tell us about replacement exterior panels or covers before ordering, and do not apply pieces to surfaces that the product does not specify.
